Gau Wu Oi Ming 鳩嗚哀鳴

The performance begins with a field recording from a shipyard in Hong Kong and a Cantonese folk ballad; the sound of woodblock, triangle and vocals are subsequently looped with a looper pedal to create a soundscape. Incense burn during the performance. Words were spoken during the overlaying of the sound elements. It culminates with a repetitive swirling movement in the performance area when the soundscape has been created. The performance resembles a ritual as well as a lamentation. Duration c. 15 min
